Enter through MBB consulting for the strongest sponsorship pipeline
McKinsey, BCG, and Bain collectively sponsor hundreds of H-1B petitions annually and have streamlined immigration processes. Their structured associate and consultant classes are designed to accommodate international hires from day one.
Target corporate strategy teams at large tech and finance companies
Companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, JPMorgan, and Goldman Sachs maintain dedicated strategy and corporate development teams. These employers regularly sponsor H-1B visas and have the legal infrastructure to support the process efficiently.
Build financial modeling and data analysis skills
Strategy roles increasingly require proficiency in financial modeling, SQL, and data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI. Demonstrating these technical skills alongside strategic thinking can strengthen both your job candidacy and the specialty occupation case in your visa petition.
Leverage case competition wins to demonstrate analytical rigor
Winning recognized case competitions or earning certifications in strategic planning provides concrete evidence of your analytical capabilities. These accomplishments give hiring managers proof of your skills beyond your degree and work experience alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of strategy roles sponsor work visas?
Corporate strategy positions at Fortune 500 companies, strategy consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain, and corporate development teams that evaluate M&A opportunities regularly sponsor H-1B visas. These roles require advanced analytical and business skills that support the specialty occupation classification.
Do I need an MBA to get a strategy role with visa sponsorship?
An MBA is not strictly required but is very common in strategy roles, especially at consulting firms and corporate strategy teams. Graduates from top MBA programs often enter strategy roles through structured recruiting pipelines where sponsorship is built into the offer process.
What is the difference between strategy consulting and corporate strategy for sponsorship purposes?
Strategy consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain sponsor large numbers of international consultants annually through structured recruiting. Corporate strategy roles at individual companies may sponsor on a case-by-case basis, but companies like Google, Amazon, and JPMorgan have dedicated strategy teams with regular sponsorship activity.
Can I move from management consulting to an in-house strategy role while on a visa?
Yes, but you would need your new employer to file a new H-1B petition or transfer your existing one. The transition is common - many corporate strategy hires come from consulting backgrounds - and larger companies typically have immigration counsel to handle the transfer process smoothly.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Strategy jobs?
When a U.S. employer sponsors a foreign worker for a work visa, they are legally required to pay at least the "prevailing wage" — the average wage paid to workers in the same occupation, in the same geographic area, with similar experience. This is set by the Department of Labor to prevent employers from hiring foreign workers at below-market rates. The prevailing wage varies significantly by role, location, and experience level — for example, a strategy in California will have a different prevailing wage than the same role in a smaller state. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search.
How to find Strategy jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Strategy jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers.
