Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Project Assistant roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, when the role requires specialized skills and a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Positions involving complex project coordination, stakeholder management, or industry-specific knowledge typically qualify. Generic administrative assistant roles without specialized requirements usually don't meet H-1B standards.
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Project Assistant?
Most qualifying positions require a bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, engineering, or a field directly related to the projects you'll support. The degree field must align with the job's specialized requirements, not just general business skills.
Which industries commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Project Assistants?
Consulting firms, healthcare organizations, technology companies, and engineering firms frequently sponsor these roles. They need project coordinators with specialized knowledge to manage complex implementations, regulatory compliance initiatives, or technical project portfolios requiring specific expertise.
What are the approval rates for Project Assistant H-1B petitions?
Approval rates vary significantly based on role specialization and employer documentation. Positions with clear specialty occupation requirements and strong degree alignment typically see higher approval rates. Generic administrative roles face more scrutiny and lower approval chances.
Can I get sponsored if my experience is in different types of projects?
Yes, if you can demonstrate how your project experience translates to the specific role requirements. Emphasize transferable specialized skills like risk management, regulatory compliance, or technical coordination that apply to the new industry or project type.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Project Assistant jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
