E-3 Sponsorship Jobs
The E-3 visa is available exclusively to Australian nationals and is designed for specialty occupation workers, functioning similarly to the H-1B. It has an annual cap of 10,500 but demand has never come close to filling it, making it one of the most reliably accessible work visas for eligible applicants. E-3 holders can apply at a U.S. consulate in Australia or in a third country, and the visa can be renewed indefinitely in two-year increments.

How to Get E-3 Sponsorship
Target employers already familiar with E-3
Companies that have sponsored E-3 visas before understand the process and are far more likely to do it again. Filter for Australian-founded companies or U.S. firms with Australian offices, as internal familiarity reduces friction significantly.
Tech and finance hire E-3 holders at scale
Software engineering, data science, financial analysis, and consulting roles in the U.S. regularly sponsor E-3 visas. These industries treat Australian talent as a known quantity and have legal infrastructure already set up for visa sponsorship.
The LCA is your employer's first step
Before your visa application, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the federal government. Understanding this gives you a realistic timeline: add two to four weeks before your consulate appointment can even be scheduled.
No lottery means you can start any time of year
Unlike the H-1B, the E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap that gets exhausted. You can apply for roles and begin the sponsorship process any month, which removes the urgency of applying only during specific windows.
Your degree field must match your job title
E-3 eligibility requires a specialty occupation tied to a specific field of study. A marketing degree supports a marketing role, not a software engineering one. Employers will ask about this fit before committing to sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to find confirmed E-3 sponsors
Migrate Mate surfaces job postings from employers open to E-3 sponsorship, saving you from cold applications to companies unfamiliar with the visa. Targeting confirmed sponsors dramatically improves your response rate and time to offer.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies for an E-3 visa?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens. You must be going to the U.S. to work in a specialty occupation, which generally requires at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a specific field of study related to the job. The employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, and you must demonstrate the necessary credentials to perform the role.
How is the E-3 different from the H-1B?
The E-3 is exclusive to Australians and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been exhausted, meaning there is no lottery and visas are available year-round. Unlike H-1B, E-3 applications can be processed directly at a U.S. consulate abroad without a prior USCIS petition, making the process faster. E-3 is renewable indefinitely in two-year increments, compared to H-1B's six-year limit before extensions require a green card in progress.
Can I apply for an E-3 while already in the U.S.?
Yes. If you are already in the U.S. on another nonimmigrant status, you can apply to change status to E-3 through USCIS rather than applying at a consulate. However, many Australians find it more straightforward to apply directly at a U.S. consulate in Australia or a third country, as the process is often faster. Consular processing typically takes a few weeks with a valid job offer and LCA.
Can an E-3 visa lead to a green card?
The E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, but holding one does not prevent you from pursuing permanent residency. Your employer can file an EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant petition on your behalf while you maintain E-3 status. Australians face much shorter green card wait times than applicants from India or China, making the transition to permanent residency more achievable within a reasonable timeframe.
How to find E-3 visa sponsorship jobs?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by E-3 sponsorship so Australian nationals can identify employers willing to hire on this visa. Because the E-3 requires no lottery and is low-cost for employers, many companies that would not sponsor an H-1B are open to E-3 sponsorship. Highlighting your Australian citizenship and E-3 eligibility early in conversations with U.S. recruiters can significantly increase your response rates.
What is the prevailing wage for e-3 sponsorship jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
